For our student of the week, Jesús, it is not easy to combine his two careers: academics and sports. He studies 1st year of Electrical Engineering at the @upna and is also a cyclist in the Huesca La Magia Renault team. He trains every day and races every weekend, so he must be very well organized to be able to study! “I am very happy with Engineering, I like it and I expected it to be more difficult! I failed one subject in the first semester, but the rest is very good. My priority during the course is the race, and in the summer I will take advantage of it to get back on the bike. At home I’ve always been told to study first and then do sports”.
He knows that it is very difficult to become a professional cyclist: “You have to have a plan B, because few cyclists make a living from cycling. I take it as a hobby. I would love to dedicate myself to it, but if it’s not possible, I really like engineering and the motor world.
Cycling is not the only sport he is passionate about. I was a triathlete before I was a cyclist. In fact, he discovered our residence one day when he came to Pamplona to do some athletics trials at the Larrabide Stadium. “My mother visited the residency while I was testing. He loved it and I trusted her! And to tell you the truth, I’m very happy.
He is a simple person. When he is not studying or training, he likes to go out with his friends, the quiet life. He is from a village in Navarra, Murchante, and some weekends he returns home to enjoy family and friends.
He is also very responsible and consistent. Cycling helps you acquire discipline, which you can then apply in other areas of life, such as academics. He also considers himself a bit reserved at first, finding it hard to open up when he doesn’t know the other person. He is attentive and polite, always greets you with a smile and a greeting!
